Cost-effective project leadership from the start to completion – defining the scope of the project (vision and guiding principles), selecting the internal and design-construction team, engaging all constituents (internal staff, patients, families, board, community, donors), leading the team, creating a realistic budget and tracking to budget, ensuring a safe construction site, celebrating and evaluating the project’s success and finally a post-occupancy evaluation.

Integration of project management with philanthropy

50-75% of all past project costs provided by philanthropy – creating and development of philanthropy team, friend-raising – fundraising, creating naming opportunities that inspire, engaging the community, nurturing donors, and celebrating success.

Creating and leading a
“Vision Charrette”

Great way to start a project and create excitement and innovative ideas. Lurie Children’s Charrette involved 125 participants in a day-long session. As a result of this effort, each of the 23 floors was aesthetically adopted by one of the iconic cultural organizations in the City, resulting in Lurie becoming a “Celebration of Chicago” at no cost to the project.

Unique process for selecting the design - construction team

Finalize two teams with the normal process and then interact with each team separately on specific elements of your project with your staff in their office before making the decision. This will ensure the match of skills and culture. Consider incorporating the entire community into the final selection process.

Creation of cost-effective mechanisms to provide art and healing gardens to enhance the project

Utilization of the local art and photographic community to create a unique collection at minimal cost. Establish a design competition to create a unique healing garden funded by philanthropy.

Development of unique plans for the two most cost-effective ways to ensure success – site visits and mockups with multiple missions.

One day assessments of proposed projects to determine project feasibility, budget, case for philanthropy, opportunities to engage the community based on 40+ years of experience, and hundreds of projects around the world as well as presentations at all major healthcare design conferences.

Development of a plan to engage the community and make your project unique to the region.

This simple technique costs nothing while enhancing the patient/family/staff experience and ensuring the success of the capital campaign by obtaining unique gifts from the community.
